Two Art Events Begin in the Meridian Hill Neighborhood

Two new art events begin the Week of May 16th in the Meridian Hill Neighborhood.  Get out and check them out!

1. Mid City Artists will host Open Studios May 21 & 22, 2011.  On Saturday and Sunday, 28 local artists, many of whom are based within, or a short walk outside of, Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association's boundaries, will open their studios to the public, during Mid City Artists' Open Studios.  It's an opportunity to see new work and works-in-progress and meet the the artists in their studios.

2.   Art Whino G40.  May 19 - June 17, 2011.  This Thursday, May 19, 2011, Art Whino returns for the second edition of G40 -- in the heart of Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association, at 2213 - 2217 14th Street, NW (near the corner of 14th & W Streets, NW; site of the former George's Carry-Out), showcasing all 4 floors of the 25,000 square foot building.  From the Art Whino Web site: This year G40 explores not cultures but the genres which are on the forefront of creative transitions and growing in large scale with hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the world. Some of these genres include Customized Collectibles, Skateboard Art, Stencil, Wheat Paste and 3D Installations.
G40 Exhibit Schedule:
Exhibit runs: May 19th-June 17th,  2011
Open Hours: Tuesday & Thursdays: 5 – 10pm,
Fridays & Saturdays: 12pm – 11pm
Sundays: 12pm – 6pm
Mondays: Closed

U Street Movie Series Launches Second Season

U Street, Washington DC  [May 4, 2011] --  After a successful inaugural season in 2010, Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, the U Street Neighborhood Association, and the Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association announced today the launch of the 2011 Summer U Street Movie Series.

This year’s movie series lineup includes films that feature and celebrate Washington DC, including both classic and family friendly Hollywood films set in Washington, DC, documentaries addressing environmental and education issues that resonate in Washington, DC, and films about local U Street
