Operation Fix-It, January 13, 2010

From the MHNA Listserve: On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations (MOCRS) will conduct a Fix-It at the 1300 blocks of Belmont, Fairmont, Euclid, Chapin, Clifton Streets, NW.  

The Mayor's Office plans to address: rat abatement; alley cleaning; graffiti removal, weather permitting; bulk trash and debris; and DDOT- and DCRA-related issues.  
 
Operation Fix-It is Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s multi-agency initiative aimed at abating crime, blight, and compliance issues in communities throughout the District of Columbia.  The Fix-Its are held weekly and the locations are generated directly from concerned citizens.

Free H1N1 Vaccine Available to All, Including Non-priority Groups

The District of Columbia Department of Health offers the H1N1 vaccine to all District residents, even if they are not in a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) priority group.

The Department of Health also has extended the hours of its Immunization Clinic located at 6323 Georgia Avenue, NW.

Tuesday, January 12, 10 am – 7 pm
Tuesday, January 19, 10 am – 7 pm
Monday, January 25, 10 am – 7 pm
Tuesday, January 26, 10 am – 7 pm

5¢ Bag Fee Starts January 1, 2010

Beginning Friday, businesses in the District of Columbia that sell food or alcohol must charge customers five cents for every disposable paper or plastic carryout bag. The proceeds of the fee will go to the new Anacostia River Cleanup and Protection Fund, to be administered by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE).

The bag fee is the first of its kind in the nation, and will not apply to bags used for newspapers, produce, hardware, frozen foods, plants, bakery items or prescription drugs. Restaurants with seating are exempt from charging for paper bags.
