Columbus Day Weekend 2009 Metro Green Line Station Closures
From the MHNA Listserve - Columbus Day weekend work to close two Metrorail stations and part of a third Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem'l-Penn Quarter stations to close; no green line service at L'Enfant Plaza.
The Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem'l-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations will be closed and the Green Line also will be closed at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail station from 10:30 pm on Friday, October 9 through Monday, October 12, with no service at these stations fro three consecutive days. The Blue and Orange Line at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorailstation will not be affected. Service will resume at all Metrorail stations on Tuesday, October 13.
The help people get around the closures, the Yellow Line will be rerouted and will follow the blue line route between the pentagon and stadium-armory Metrorail stations with a stop at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail stations on the lower level. Shuttle buses also will be available.
During Columbus Day Weekend, Metro will replace the entire rail interlocking (four switches) at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail station on the the Green and Yellow lines, and will closethe Yellow Line bridge over the Potomac river to conduct and annual safety inspection and conduct track maintenance. This means there will be no Yellow Line service between the Archives-Navy Mem'l-Penn Quarter and Fort TottenMetrorail stations.
The Green Line will be closed between the Navy Yard and Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail stations. The waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem'l-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations will be closed. There will be no Green Line service at the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail station.
The Green Line will operate in two segments -- between teh Branch Avenue and Navy Yard Metrorail stations and between the Greenbelt and Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metrorail stations.
On Friday, October 9 from 10:30 pm through closing the Yellow Line will operate between the Huntington and Pentagon Metrorail stations. However, from Saturday, October 10 to Monday October 12, the Yellow Line will be rerouted and will run between the Huntington and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations.
From Saturday, October 10 to Monday, October 12, all Green and Yellow Line trains will operate every 12 - 15 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes after 9:30.
The Red, Blue and Orange lines will not be impacted by this work.
Shuttle Bus Service
From 1:30 pm Friday, October 9 to closing on Monday, October 12, Metro will operate these free shuttle buses between the Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metrorail station and:
* Navy Yard Metrorail station with stops at Waterfront-SEU, L'Enfant Plaza and Archives-Navy Mem'l-Penn Quarter Metrorail stations. This shuttle bus will depart from the Navy Yard Metrorail station and stop at the Waterfront Metrorail station, the L'Enfant Plaza Metrorailstation, the Archives-Navy Mem'l Penn Quarter Metrorail station and the Gallery0PL Chinatown Metrorail station.
* Navy Yard Metrorail station with no stops in between - this shuttle bus will depart from the Navy Yard Metrorail station and the Gallery Place Chinatown Metrorail station.
* AnacostiaMetrorail station with not stops in between - this shuttle bus will depart from the AnacostiaMetrorail station by bus bay A and operate directly to the Gallery Pl-Chinatown Metrorail station.
This weekend's free shuttle buses will operate every 12 - 15 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes after 9:30.
