14th & U Farmers' Market returns Saturday, May 1, 2010
[From the MHNA Listserv] The market is back this Saturday, from 9am until 1pm. And if you come really early, you can even get some of Garner's early Strawberries: Sweet Charlies. The early summer weather jumped started their strawberry season ahead by weeks. Just a sample of what the farmers are bringing:
There will be lots of green and purple asparagus, kale, yellow and red swiss chard, watercress, arugula, lettuces, salad mixes, spring onions, spinach, tender young collards, beets, radishes, lots of herbs -- and even nettles to make French nettle soup (wear your gloves cutting them up). Green Garlic for pesto. Apple Cider, rhubarb, Asian pears, sunchokes, Goldrush, Fuji, Pink Lady and Braeburn Aples, Red Raspberry and Apple jam.
- NEWS: Chez Hareg has rejoined the market with her wonderful French and French Vegan baked goods. And Lois has her pumpkin whoopie pies as well as pecan, oatmeal and rhubarb. Panorama has been working on new croissant and French pastries as well as their Breton Baguette and all their other breads.
- Lots of pastured meats: pork, beef, goats, lamb.
- EGGS: Chicken, duck and goose.
- Cherry Glen's award winning goat cheeses; chevre, 5 different soft ripened cheese and ricotta.
- Stefano's handmade pastas, jams, sauces and new this year: soup
- Dolcezza's gelato and sorbet.
- Elaine's flowers straight from her fields: Alliums, Sweet William, Hesperus, Hellaborus.

We welcome WIC, Senior Get Fresh Checks, EBT/SNAP. Dogs and kids are both very welcome at the market.
