United States Park Police to Host Citizen's Academy

The United States Park Police hold jurisdiction of the National Parks in Washington DC, including our Meridian Hill Park.  They will be hosting a citizens' academy beginning on October 3rd that will run through November 15th.  

From the USPP Website:  Investigators, trainers, station commanders, and officers will explain the United States Park Police organization, police procedures, and what it is like to be a police officer.  The 6-week course is offered by the Training Branch.  Topics will include:  Use of Force, Investigations, Special Forces Operations, Radio Communications, Emergency Response and much more.

Olympic Games in Meridian Hill Park

JantzenOn Sunday, August 26, 2012, local drag queen Summer Camp celebrated her fifth year of the “Summer Games,” a series of Olympics-inspired contests held in Meridian Hill / Malcolm X Park.  Instead of Queen Elizabeth opening the London Games, Summer Camp wore the flag of the United Kingdom. The Games were sponsored by Shearon Van Riggins, an amalgation of local DJs Aaron Riggins and Shea Van Horn.  More information and photos of the event.

Activities will include pony rides, moon bounce and carnival rides.  Hot dogs, burgers, popcorn, cotton candy, and sodes will be provided.
